Though Project Power was met with lukewarm reviews, the movie features plenty of star power in the form of Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Dominique Fishback's work as Robin Reilly has also garnered praise. Audiences also seem to enjoy the movie, to the point that it reached #1 on Netflix's Top 10 list. This would put it in roughly the same ballpark as the Will Smith-starring Netflix urban fantasy Bright, which incidentally has a sequel on the way.
What's more, there are still plenty of Project Power-themed stories to tell. Per Polygon, writer Mattson Tomlin knows that the ending seems rather definitive, but he's quick to note that Project Power is filled to the brim with stealthy sequel potential — and that he very much knows where to take the story. "We ended up where we ended up in, in large part because we wanted to be able to go somewhere in the event that we're lucky enough to do sequel," Tomlin says. "For me, [Power] is urban legend and people aren't quite sure. And that means there's a very exciting opportunity: How does the world change once everybody knows that this exists? It will change the fabric of how all of life is potentially lived. And I think that that's a really cool place to go."
Tomlin certainly seems like he has a vision for a Project Power 2, and it's worth noting that, as the co-writer of Matt Reeves' upcoming, Robert Pattinson-starring The Batman, he's becoming a pretty major player in the superhero genre. Combine this with Project Power's popularity, and a sequel seems entirely feasible. Of course, nothing is certain until Netflix announces Project Power 2, but it's not easy to imagine that they'd pass up such a golden opportunity.
